SOUND LEVEL METER
A sound level meter is a device used to measure the sound intensity in decibels (dB). It is commonly used in various settings such as industrial, environmental, and healthcare fields to measure the sound levels and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Sound level meters consist of a microphone that captures the sound waves, an amplifier that increases the signal strength, and a display that shows the sound level in decibels. Some advanced sound level meters may also include features such as data logging and real-time frequency analysis.
The primary function of a sound level meter is to measure and monitor sound levels in a given environment. This is important as exposure to high noise levels can cause hearing damage and other health problems. In industrial settings, sound level meters are used to ensure that workers are not exposed to harmful noise levels, while in healthcare settings, they are used to monitor the sound levels of medical equipment. In addition, sound level meters can also be used to identify the source of noise pollution and to assess the effectiveness of noise control measures.
The current international standard that specifies sound level meter functionality and performances is the IEC 61672-1:2013. Norsonic sound level meters cover the latest sound level meter standards: IEC 60651, IEC 60804, IEC 61672, IEC 61260, ANSI S1.4, ANSI S1.11, ANSI S1.43, DIN45657.
