How It Works

Using a combination of BreadCrumb® wireless network nodes and InstaMesh® networking software, Rajant Kinetic Mesh® networks employ any-node to any-node capabilities to continuously and instantaneously route data via the best available traffic path and frequency—for any number of nodes, all with extremely low overhead.

 

Rajant BreadCrumbs can communicate with any Wi-Fi or Ethernet-connected device to deliver low-latency, high-throughput data, voice and video applications across the meshed, self-healing network.

From interference-wrought, indoor or outdoor above-ground settings to underground tunnels and even on water, these BreadCrumbs extend and expand the connectivity range of autonomous systems, allowing them to often roam large geographic areas. Kinetic Mesh enables fully mobile coverage without the need for infrastructure and can provide the operational coverage autonomous assets need when they are far away from LTE towers or have no line of sight.

 

What’s more, our BreadCrumbs’ multi-transceiver redundancy eliminates any single point of failure for mission-critical reliability. Other networks must continually break connectivity as they handoff, and even a momentary loss of communications can cause an autonomous system to shut down for safety reasons. Create Multiple Lines of Defense Against Data Compromise

Rajant Kinetic Mesh is a private wireless network of BreadCrumb® wireless nodes using our patented InstaMesh® networking software protocol. The InstaMesh protocol seamlessly networks fixed, wireless, and mobile nodes together, dynamically redirecting traffic between the next best available points if any one peer is compromised or obstructed.

 

Rajant BreadCrumbs offer many levels of encryption for your mesh network to protect packets from devices and people accessing them directly. Packet cipher and MAC address cipher settings from X-Salsa basic encryption to suite B military-grade encryption are available, with per-packet, per-hop authentication to prevent packet injection and MAC spoofing.

 

Our BreadCrumbs also support Access Control Lists (ACLs) to prevent unwanted MAC addresses from sending or receiving information from the Kinetic Mesh network. Rajant’s robust protection extends to mesh endpoints, as we provide varying levels of security on access point connections, including WEP, WPA, WPA2 personal, mixed, and enterprise.

 

RiSM is easier to set up than other Hardware Security Module (HSM) solutions and more reliable than software solutions that require a multi-tunnel approach.

Recent advances in tunneling technologies have allowed for the construction of newer underground facilities. With more complex tunneling comes a myriad of challenges—like space constraints, difficult ground conditions, and unmovable underground structures—not to mention that work must operate in an environment where it’s difficult to deploy reliable network systems.

 

With a solution like Rajant’s private wireless network, tunneling operators can overcome the vast networking challenges inherent in enabling communications and productivity inside tunnel construction sites and other underground operations.

 

Kinetic Mesh network comprises compact, lightweight BreadCrumb® nodes that can be flexibly deployed throughout the tunnel, on both fixed infrastructure and moving equipment, to form a robust mesh network underground. BreadCrumbs maintain multiple simultaneous connections between peers for inherent redundancy and can simultaneously send and receive information on different frequencies. Paired with Rajant’s RCP-2450 dual-frequency bi-directional antenna system to extend range, they form a complete, tunnel-wide wireless network for mission-critical data and video and voice communications.

In tunnel deployments, Rajant provides a robust alternative to fiber and traditional single radio wireless systems using our multi-radio, multi-frequency BreadCrumb nodes combined with Rajant’s wide-band, bi-directional, circular polarized antennas powered by Poynting. BreadCrumbs use Rajant’s patented InstaMesh® networking software to direct traffic over the fastest path(s) among the meshed connections they hold. Issues caused by interference, congestion, and equipment outages are mitigated as the network will self-optimize if a path becomes blocked or unavailable, redirecting packets via the next-best available link(s) in real-time.
