The Autumn Update Is Here! Big Updates To Velo Acoustics Testing Software

14 Oct 2024

Release Note | Velo 2024 - V6.1.1.0

We're excited to introduce enhanced live tracking and data export capabilities in Velo 2024, featuring Realsense D455f camera support for wider FOV and improved accuracy, and RPM-based processing for detailed acoustic analysis. These additions advance Velo’s precision, improving workflow flexibility and depth of analysis. Additional updates have been made to Scan&Paint 2D & 3D. Read a detailed description of all the updates below!

VELOScreen2024

What's New?

Scan&Paint 2D Updates:

  • Realsense D455f Camera Compatibility: Added support for the Realsense D455f camera, this camera has a wider FOV and applies IR-filtering for better live tracking. This camera is now the standard and is included in the pro version.
  • Improved Live Tracking Calibration: An updated calibration algorithm ensures better and more consistent live tracking settings.
  • Live Tracking Exclusion Brush Tool: A new tool that allows users to manually exclude areas from live tracking in real-time, improving tracking experience.
  • Live Tracking Toggle Button: Users can now toggle live tracking on or off. If live tracking is off but a depth image is available, the system will automatically save a depth background image at the start of a capture, for later sound power calculations.
  • Video Frame Navigation: Clicking on a tracking position in the Video Processing tab now jumps to the corresponding video frame and time.
  • Advanced Section Area Calculations: The calculation of section areas now uses 3D tracking coordinates when available, this only applies for live tracking. If unavailable but a depth image exists, the depth image is used; otherwise, pixel-per-meter settings are applied.

Scan&Paint 3D Updates:

  • PS-Tech API Integration: The PS-Tech API has been updated to improve performance and ensure better compatibility with new hardware, also the PS-Tech client/server are not needed anymore.
  • More Consistent Camera Reposition Tool: The camera reposition tool now requires 5 points for calibration, resulting in a more consistent repositioning experience. Additionally, the tool now shows the average absolute distance between control points and ‘real life’ points instead of a percentage. Also the tool applies the same axes limit settings as in the main window.
  • Reference Sensor Process: Added support for processes involving reference sensors.
  • Enhanced Arrow Selection and Deletion: Improved accuracy for selecting and deleting individual arrows, optimizing the user experience during analysis.
  • Updated Snapshot Legend: Snapshot legend names for spherical and object distance are now clearer for easier analysis.
  • Saved Planes and Section Toggles: Toggled planes and sections in the Analyse tab are now saved for future sessions, improving continuity between sessions.
  • Sound Power Tool Optimization: Deleted arrows are now excluded from calculations in the Sound Power tool, making the software more consistent and improving sound power calculation accuracy.
  • CSV/XLSX Export Enhancements: Distance maps and sphere sections are now exported in .CSV and .XLSX formats, providing greater flexibility in data management outside of VELO.

Acoustic Shape Updates:

  • Improved Arrow Selection and Deletion: Similar to SNP3D, arrow selection and deletion accuracy has been enhanced, providing a smoother experience.
  • PS-Tech API Implementation: Same as in SNP3D, the new PS-Tech API has been implemented.

Near-Field Acoustic Camera Updates:

  • RPM-Based Processing Methods: New processing methods are now available, including Order over Time and Order over RPM, matching the functionality of older versions of VELO.
  • Expanded Export Options: Data can now be exported in multiple formats, including .mat, .txt, .csv, and .xlsx, facilitating data integration with other tools.

Backend Updates:

  • Customizable Snapshot Plot Colours: Users can now adjust snapshot plot colours via Tools -> Options -> Display Style, allowing more control over visual presentation.
  • Metadata Text and Axes Customization: The colour of metadata text and axes in image and video exports can now be edited in Tools -> Options -> Output for enhanced output customization.
  • Complete Snapshot Plot Saving: All figure properties are now saved for snapshot plots, improving consistency when revisiting or exporting snapshots.
  • Enhanced Process Visibility: The currently selected process is now also displayed in bold, making it easier to track what’s shown in the analysis tab.
  • Flexible 3D Axis Views: 3D axis views can now be individually deleted and are importable/exportable between projects, offering better comparison in between different projects.
  • Windscreen Display: Windscreen information is now visible in the probe table, providing a more complete overview of probe configurations.
  • New playback API: Playback of project-based time signals has been improved drastically, making the data playback features smoother and ready for further planned improvement.
  • Improved logfile saving: Logfiles are now saved per session.
  • Voyager h5 file export tool: Voyager files can now be immediately converted to .mat .wav and .uff from any Velo module.
